Cartooning is a simple yet powerful (and fun!) art form. Cartoon characters are marked by their exaggerated features and extraordinary personality, each one depicting situations and emotions with a distinct design. Cartoons can be serious, humorous, satirical, silly, or a blend of many things. If you love to doodle characters and want to learn how to draw your own cartoon scenes, this course is for you!
In this course, students will learn the fundamental principles needed to create their own unique cartoons from head-to-toe. Students will be introduced to common drawing techniques and different cartooning styles, looking at classic cartoons like Garfield, Peanuts, Calvin & Hobbs, and more! Students will develop drawing techniques and gain a greater artistic understanding of what it is to be a cartoonist.
Each week, the instructor will take you step-by-step and help you build shapes layer-by-layer until you get something more complex. Students will get to explore a new subject each week, but the possibilities of you what you can create are endless! The course also involves sequential storytelling and scriptwriting as students learn to design their own illustrated story. The course will feature a hybrid of both 2-D and 3-D drawing.
All you need is a pencil, pen, eraser, and sketch pad.
