Abstract Painting with Sarah Hanson

ABSTRACT ART WITH SARAH HANSON

This studio art class is open to all skill levels. 

The goal of each class is to start a new work or add a new layer to a work-in-progress.

We will work to become comfortable taking action on the painting surface, while developing your authentic style, practice, problem-solving skills and self lead investigations.

Each class will examine a movement of Art History and introduce an artist of the time to provide context and inspiration.

Acrylic paint on canvas will be the demonstrated and recommended medium for this class.

This series will look take us to Artists from all over the world, finding inspiration in their color palettes, mark-making and brush work.  This studio class will focus on painting more freely and the development of individuals artistic process. With an abstract approach, we will examine the principles of art, grow painting skills and work to recognize and release artistic bias. Each class will look at works of different cultures and their abstract artists. We will discuss the elements of art and design principles each artist uses and try to incorporate an aspect of their work into a work of our own. Open to all skill levels.

You will need:

  • Canvas or Canvas paper or Canvas Boards no smaller than 9×12”
  • Acrylic Paints Recommended  Colors: RED- Napthol or Pyrrol, YELLOW- Azo or Hansa, BLUE- Anthraquinone or Manganese, BROWN- Burnt Umber, Black and White
    Paint palette
  • Palette knife
    Paint Brushes- broad range of sizes, at least 4 different sizes
  • Acrylic Mediums and or Flotrol for Flow
  • Paint palette for color mixing- plastic, glass, wax paper,  palette paper, or plastic tray
