In this class we will explore different painting methods and techniques to start a painting and finishing it. All media welcome, short demos will be done in different media by Rick at the start of each class.
We’ll discuss paints, surfaces, brushes, and mediums. Rick will show how to use: the tonal range, color keys when painting different lighting effects, drawing with the brush, placement of focal points, composition, eye flow, lost and found edges, hard and soft edges The goal: for you to paint beautiful and interesting paintings!
Students will work from their own photos, still life setups, memory and fun ideas. Rick will demo how to paint skies clouds, water, structures, trees, perspective, textures, shadows, reflections, fabric, and other objects.
After forty plus years of Graphic Design and Illustration deadlines, professional artist, Rick Austin decided to retired and pursue his love of painting. Rick acquired a deep appreciation for nature growing up in the Adirondack Mountains. He enjoys the challenge of painting outdoors be it landscapes or seascapes. But as is the case with most artists everything and anything can be a source for inspiration.
New to the Art Show and Festival venue Rick has been achieving his share of recognition having been awarded “Best of Show in Oil Painting” 2018 and “Best of Show in Nature and Wildlife” 2019 at the juried North Charleston Arts Festival. Recently two of Rick’s paintings were accepted into the 2019 Piccolo Spoleto Juried Exhibition in Charleston, SC.
Rick lives in Folly Beach, SC.
