Beach Lover Like Me
by Angela “asset” Gilmore
I saw a beach lover like me
Walking barefoot toward the shore,
Bearing our weighted hearts again
“Sand steps” deepening even more.
Wearing cutoff jeans and a lowly top
Carrying only our shoes, nothing more
Leaving loved-lost sadness tossed
Beneath the cross of “never more.”
She came to hear the waves again
And watch them crash against the shore
She didn’t come to shed any tears
Just like the times before
I watched this lover of the beach like me
Wading liberally in the shore
Leave soaked, free, in perfect peace.
Like we did the times before.
Nothin’ but the Ocean
