Is laughter really the best medicine?
Whether you’re chuckling at a TV program or giggling at a cartoon, laughing is good for you. Laughing is a natural response and can provide stress relief and better brain function.
A good laugh has great short-term effects. When you start to laugh, it doesn’t just lighten your load mentally, it actually induces physical changes in your body. Laughter can:
• Reduce blood pressure
• Help your heart health by increasing your blood flow
• Release endorphins to manage physical pain
• Boost your immune system
Laughter isn’t just a quick pick-me-up, though. It’s also good for you in the long term. In fact, laughter may:
• Help fight depression
• Improve memory
• Combat anxiety
How can we laugh more?
1. Spend time with people who make you smile.
2. Watch reruns of funny TV shows, like I Love Lucy, Gilligan’s Island, or Seinfeld
3. Conduct a search for funny comics or memes.
4. Look for your favorite comedian on YouTube.
5. Enter funny jokes or quotes in a journal
