Stay Cool this Summer

Tampa is hot! The heat and humidity these last couple weeks has been high, and we wanted to take this opportunity to share with you how to stay cool and safe.

 

• Stay hydrated. Drink water throughout the day. Sports drinks are a good choice because they help replace minerals and salt the body needs.
• Keep your home cooler with heat blocking curtains.
• Cool down in a pool or one of our many beautiful waterways. Remember sunscreen!
• You can store your skin care products in the fridge, they will help cool your skin as you apply them.
• If you are on medications, review them with your doctor and find out if they will affect your heat tolerance.
• Wear lighter, looser clothes, avoid anything heavier.
• Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day

• Potluck is July 3^rd. Come celebrate Independence Day with us!

 

• The LEC will be closed July 4^th and 5^th for the holiday weekend.

 

• Vote in the Creative Loafing 2024 Best of the Bay! Nominate the LEC for Best of the Bay 2024 now through 11:59 p.m. on July 5^th. Go to cltampa.com to vote for the LEC. Click the “Places” section and select the “Best of Nonprofits” category then you can enter ‘The Life Enrichment Center’. You can also vote for ‘Embers and Ashes’ by selecting the “Arts” category, then “Best Literary Journal” and entering “The Life Enrichment Center’s ‘Embers and Ashes’. Help us be recognized as the Best of the Bay 2024!

 

• Our Artfully Aging Anthology is now available on Amazon for $12. However, you can order copies through us for $6 each. A preorder sign up is on the resource table. Contributors will receive a complimentary copy.

 

• Call for Manuscripts! LEC’s yearly Anthology Creative Fire, Embers and Ashes 25 is now accepting original works of writing in fiction, nonfictions, and poetry from LEC Members. Submissions deadline is August 30^th. The guidelines are posted on the resource table and bulletin board. If you have any questions give us a call at (813) 932-0241 or email us at [email protected]. We look forward to receiving your entries.

 

• The LEC needs volunteers! Please call or drop us an email if you are interested in volunteering with us on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday for two hours.

 

• Beginning Drawing with Arleen is going on now. This four-week class is on Wednesdays and runs from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. Beginning Drawing is designed for individuals who have an interest in learning how to draw or sketch, or simply want to improve their skills.

 

• Morgan is hosting a 4 week Beginning Acrylic Painting Class. It starts Wednesday, July 17^th and runs from 5:30-7:00pm. You will learn the basics of acrylic painting.

 

• July 18^th ClareMedica is sponsoring a Tech Workshop all about phones and how to navigate them. The signup sheet is on the resource table. This workshop is free to attend.

 

• Crochet is continuing 6 more weeks through July! Join Becky and our crochet group on Monday afternoons at 1pm. No prior crochet knowledge is needed to attend.

 

• Are you Interested in a Quilting class? We are thinking about having a small quilting class in the fall (date to be determined). If you are interested and would like to attend, please call or email us and let us know. (813) 932-0241 and [email protected]

 

• ClareMedica would like to sponsor an Exercise Wellness Class. This would be every other week and encompass physical wellness and nutrition. • Mermaid Tail Trail in Hernando issued a Call to Artists. They are inviting regional artists to apply to paint one of the twenty mermaid statues that will be permanently placed throughout Hernando County. Submissions must be entered by 5pm Monday July 26^th. To read more and apply, go online to https://floridamermaidtrail.com/call-to-artists/. • The LEC will be closed Friday July 26^th through Monday July 29^th. The building is being treated for termites. Online classes are unaffected.
