Week of July 7th – 13th

Mah Jongg is more than a matching game.

Did you know that American Mah Jongg is far more involved than matching tiles up on your computer or cell phone? Developed in China in the 19th century, it has spread throughout the world as a beloved game of strategy and skill, with a bit of luck.

Mah Jongg is played with 144 tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols, and 3 or 4 players. Players begin with 13 tiles, and during their turn will draw and discard tiles until they complete a hand. While many variations of Mah Jongg exist, there are many common rules across them that remain the same, including drawing and discarding, the use of suits and honors, and the order of play.

We have an Open Play, Intermediate Mah Jongg class that meets on Wednesdays 1:00-3:30pm. Instructor Alice Webb is there to guide and help when questions arise. If you’re interested in an Introductory Beginners Mah Jongg class, let us know at [email protected] or (813) 932-0241.
