Alice Webb

Mah Jongg

Alice Webb is an educator and Mah Jongg enthusiast.  She attended the University of South Florida and majored in education.  After obtaining her degree, Alice taught in the public school system and developed a tutoring center at Hillsborough Community College before retiring from the University of South Florida’s Student Affairs department.

Alice’s love for Mah Jongg first began over 30 years ago when she learned the game with a group of friends and worked with the National Mah Jongg League to improve her understanding of the game. The League standardized Mah Jongg in 1937 so all players would play the same hands and rules, but each year the League changes the hands and rules to add more excitement to the game.

Alice’s goal for when she retired in 2014 was to combine her two great passions: teaching and Mah Jongg. She was able to exercise her love for both when she became a Mah Jongg instructor at the Life Enrichment Center in 2015. Though it is a game of skill and strategy, Alice feels Mah Jongg is a game for all ages to learn and enjoy. For her, the most gratifying part of teaching at the LEC is watching the happiness and satisfaction her students feel once they have mastered the difficult game.

Alice is married to her husband of 53 years and they share one son together. She continues to play Mah Jongg regularly and looks forward to helping more LEC students become skilled Mah Jongg players!
