Cathy McEvoy

Board Member

Cathy McEvoy, raised in Sarasota, Florida, is a professor emeritus of the University of South Florida (USF). She earned her Ph.D. in cognitive psychology at USF, taught one year at Binghamton University, and then returned to USF to teach in the School of Aging Studies for 35 years. She was the Director of the School of Aging Studies and the Director of the Ph.D. Program for Aging Studies.

It was during her tenure as a professor that she first encountered the LEC. While in search of healthy older adults to participate in her research studies, Cathy found LEC members to be excited about life and eager to donate their participant earnings back to the LEC. She became convinced that it must be a special place and later joined the board to give back to the aging community.

Cathy has been on the Board of Trustees for over 15 years and previously served as Secretary of the Board for many years. She believes the LEC is incredibly important because it is the one place where older adults can completely immerse themselves in artistic pursuits and express themselves creatively, which she thinks is critical for maintaining positive mental well-being.
